The Rev. PhumezoMasango has been a tremendous blessing God has given to the Church. He regularly preaches at UyesuUnathi Church and give us Communion every month, and has started Membership classes on a Tuesday and Leadership classes for the men on a Saturday. This year we celebrated our Heritage on 24th September. The congregation dressed in traditional dress at church and had traditional food for lunch – a great celebration for all.
The Sunday school children enjoyed a day of Sand Art, making Bookmarks for their bibles, they loved this activity. We realized we needed to motivate the older children. We now have a class of “Junior Adults”. Children from 11 to 16 years of age are taught bible truths. Each child has their own work book and activities. Zusakhe is leading this group. They love it and we aredelighted we have filled a need, when this age group seems to drop out of coming to church.
The Preschool has done exceptionally well this year, and I am extremely pleased with all the hard work done by the Staff leadership. It is almost self- supporting, by next year they will be.The
finances are in good shape as we now have funding from Social Services. A couple fund-raising events in which the parents were involved, has also helped. One that was very popular was the modelling day. Scores of parents attended, showing interest in their children’s education. One of the volunteer teaches taught the older ones a really great dance, much to everyone’s delight.
YOUTH – OUTREACH
Our prayers for months, has been to door to door visiting people around the church and finally a couple of brave souls stepped out in Faith and did so. It was not an easy experience, but we are encouraged this will improve. Zusakhe, seen here, has a job that does door to door Surveys, so she has been helping us. We have just had out first Children’s Rally, where over 70 children came to hear the gospel. Nthombi, from Child Evangelism Fellowship and the Director came to us, loaded with leaflets on the gospel to give to the very excited children.God is teaching us to grow and we are so thrilled.
By God’s grace and provision we feed around 300 children every week from the Community. The Kid’s Klub, our preschool children and an orphanage. The food is given by a local store Woolworth’s – supply us with their- past the sell by date food. It was suddenly stopped, a great shock to us all. We immediately sent our partners in prayer the request to pray for re instatement. I am pleased to say after a couple of months of prayer and much suffering for the children, Woolworths have given us a slot, from mid –November.Praise God.
Since September we have been raising funds for items of clothing to put Christmas packs we make up for the very poor children from the squatter area in Site B. This year it has been an extremely difficult task, due to the down turn in the economy and the higher prices to buy the items we need.
However, God is so gracious, and we have completed over 2000 small gift packs. We now have just a month in order to raise this figure. Pray we can for the children to get a gift this Christmas.
We have been very thankful for the veggies produced in our garden – as this is one item we need daily for the preschool children. We have Spinach, potatoes and spring onions and in a week or so carrots.
We have had to change the name of the church and leave the “community” out – as the previous occupants took our name. There was much delight when the new and improved sign was erected with information about the activities of the church was well.
For several months while I was ill, the staff in Khayelitsha namely, Sipho, Nzuki and Susan ran the Ministry with very little input from me [from my bed – I did the Admin, Salaries and finances]. It was a time of learning for all of us, for me to have patience and literally wait on the Lord, and for the staff to grow and take more responsibility in Ministry. I spent several weeks at Mark Parris home recuperating, very ill most of the time and looked after by Cyndi his wonderfully patient but strict and loving wife. The support from her and her family kept me alive. All I could eat was the soup Ceddie made, and visits from Tyree to boost my spirits. I lost 11 Kilos, but now have gained one back.
In order to thank them for the excellent work and selfless service, going the extra mile for our Lord’s work, they were given tickets to take their children to visit the Dinosaur Park.
Rev. Mark Parris is also getting to know many areas in Khayelitsha. Sipho took him around Site B where the work first started – 28 years ago. Here Markis sharing the gospel with a lady outside her shack. They handed out many tracts around the area. Sipho showed Mark where as a young man, then far from God,used to hang out at the local Shebeen [pub/bar]. It was an awesome experience and much interest and curiosity was shown by the community. They can see the change in Sipho. He now wants to start a bible study in his home for the community - Praise God!
Plans are in Council to be passed for an additional classroom for the preschool, This class needed to accommodate Grade R children to prepare themfor school.
Other news to pray for, the Graduation at the end of November, for wisdom and strength for it to run smoothly, Everyone is very tired this time of year, and team work is so important!
Pray we have sufficient funds for the salaries and bonuses for mid Dec. for all the staff. Thank you.
Please keep in mind all the other Preparations leading up to Christmas, all the parties, food and gifts for giving out by 1st week in December.
Please also pray for the teaching and training of the new Sunday school teachers for next year, and the preparation of all the materials for teachers, plus all Bible studies.
As we come to yet another year’s end, I would like to thank everyone who, by your prayers, emails, bible verses, telephone calls and SMS [text] messageshas helped me through a very challenging and very difficult year. I have learned without trials, there is little Faith.God is using this year to show me personally to have great Faith in HIM! I am stronger in my Spirt and my Joy is back! Praise God.My family in Khayelitsha, have been wonderful throughout this year and helped me enormously to cope.
Praise God for all his kindness and love He has shown me this year, I am truly humbled.
Nozizwe’s husband has come to church a few times, after years of praying for him,we are delighted, we are praying he will be more regular and that he will make his commitment to Jesus soon.
Sipho has his driver’s license, which I have nagged him for over 3 years to get. Praise the Lord!
Lastly – thanks again toother family Liz, Peter and Joan who helped contribute towards food for the preschool every month this year. We thank God for you, may God continue to bless you this coming year, as you serve Him.I will be writing to you end of February next year.
