About Laura Haas
As a self supporting Missionary, I fully depend on the Lord for all my personal and ministry needs and have been serving God in Khayelitsha since 1987.
This ministry started in the squatter area called 'Site B' and by God's grace and provision over the next 5 years, a sunday school of nearly 900 children was established. Out of this the Youth work grew to approximately 120 youth. A church service was started with a congregation of 60 / 70 folk. A ladies bible study was also established with 25 committed ladies. Since then 3 buildings were erected. One for a preschool with 130 children. The other two for church and youth work. A play park was created which is still the only one in the area of 10 sq. miles.
The second church plant was established in Mandela Park which is approximately 8 miles from Site B. A Hall (Used as a Preschool for 165 children), Manse and counselling/office facility was erected. A Sunday school and a bible study group of 60/70 people started and later a church service developed.
In 2001 a third preschool was built, in E Section (in between Site B and Mandela Park). It was equipped and opened in 2002. In 2003 more funds were raised to build a Church Hall. Plans were submitted and the Church built in 2004 and officially opened in April 2005. There are also 4 additional rooms on the Hall for AIDS training and counselling, Computer training, the Ministers Office and Meeting room. One room is presently used as a Kitchen and where the Mammas and young folk meet on Wednesdays and Fridays.
As a missionary I am working to spread the gospel to everyone in this community in order for them to understand and accept the saving grace of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Over this time the ministry has grown to include
- an education programme for the past 15 years, which has helped hundreds of young folk with school fees, uniforms, equipment for school and transport money to get to school.
- a food scheme, collecting food and clothing weekly.
- supporting 25 to 30 families on a monthly basis with food parcels.
- support for AIDS orphans and children without families, with food, clothing and school fees etc.
- supporting the elderly with food, clothing and medical needs
- support for two Ministers, two staff members and myself.
By God's grace all the above continues to be provided for. All He requires is my obedience to His will.
A testimony to this is that all the buildings and equipment have been paid in full.
In His service
